Miguel Cotto TKO 10

Miguel Cotto made history by becoming the first Puerto Rican boxer to win a world title in four divisions, as he dominated WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez over nine rounds on Saturday night in front of an announced crowd of 21,090 at Madison Square Garden.

Cotto knocked Martinez down three times in the first round and Martinez never got back into the fight. Martinez obviously was damaged goods as his knees were a mess from start to finish.

Some members of the media, including myself, felt as if the corner spared Sergio more embarrassment than pain by encouraging the stoppage.

With the win, Miguel Cotto moves to 39-4 (32 KOs). Martinez falls to 51-3-2 (28 KOs).
