Over 200 Meals to be Given Out to Los Angeles Families; Thanksgiving Meal Drive held In Honor of Local Philanthropist Monique Gonzalez
 
Downey Mayor Pro Tem Fernando Vasquez to kick-off Giveaway
WHO:            
Handing out meals will be: ABNER MARES: FORMER THREE-DIVISION WORLD CHAMPION BOXER (Bantamweight, Super Bantamweight & Featherweight divisions), Downey Mayor Pro Tem Fernando Vasquez and volunteers from Team Mares boxing and the staff of Nathalie’s Essence of Beauty.
 
WHAT:
The fourth-annual Abner Mares Thanksgiving turkey giveaway. Over 200 turkey meals will be given out to needy families from across Los Angeles including the communities of Bell Gardens and Hawaiian Gardens, CA. Community organizations in both cities and media partners have given out vouchers to local, needy families for redemption for Thanksgiving meals.
 
This years’ giveaway will be held in honor of the late, local Philanthropist/Community activist Monique Gonzalez. Gonzalez organized multiple food and toy drives for the greater Los Angeles community for athletes, corporations and entertainers and her presence is greatly missed.

BACKGROUND:   
This is Abner Mares’ fourth annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway, where he’s fed over 2500 families in need in the community of Bell Gardens since he started the event. Mares’ started the giveaway when he saw the need for meals in the community where he was raised as a young boy – Hawaiian Gardens.
Committed to serving and helping his community, Abner continues to generously give back via an annual scholarship at his former elementary school, Ferguson Elementary, as well as supporting youth and community programs with the LA County Sheriff’s, California Highway Patrol and Los Angeles School District. Abner hopes to help be a positive, young adult role model and guide young people toward leading positive lives and away from the circumstances of gang violence, juvenile delinquency and substance abuse.
