Press Release – Maynard Allison – TITLE TIME

maynard.jpgRaleigh, NC (May 17) – For Maynard Allison, his fight May 20 at the Raleigh Convention Center is not just another chance to fight in front of a large North Carolina crowd.  This time the stakes are high, because this time is TITLE TIME.

Allison 7-1 (5 KO’s) faces his former Virginia stablemate and undefeated prospect Eric Hernandez 9-0 (5 KO’s) for the vacant 135 lb UBF All-American title.

Allison and Hernandez came up in the the amateurs together. Allison is very familiar Hernandez’s style, and had this to say, “Eric is a good fighter with quick hands. He is a slick Mexican fighter.”

Hernandez and his undefeated record present Allison with a new challenge. While Hernandez is not the best fighter Allison has faced, Hernandez is the first undefeated fighter from outside the state of North Carolina to face Allison on his home turf.  Allison sees this as a huge advantage.  “Man, I have been in Eric’s shoes.  I went to Vegas undefeated to face a guy with one loss in Ledarius Miller.  It was a different type of pressure. Records don’t matter.  Now I have the advantage.”

This is a “Do or Die” fight for Maynard Allison.  With a win, he will earn his first professional title, and stay on track for a coveted rematch with Ledarius Miller.  With a loss, Allison and his team will need to look deep in the mirror and do some heavy soul searching. Allison understands the magnitude of this fight.  As we were hanging up to end the conversation, he stopped me to say, “I am excited about this fight.  Yeah, I can win a title, but I want to make a statement.   It is Title Time!”
