Canelo to Cotto: Stop Wasting My Time!

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez has called on WBC middleweight champion Miguel Cotto to sign the contract and face him in the ring on May 2. In a letter sent to members of the media, Canelo implored Cotto to sign the contract for their proposed fight:

CANELO ALVAREZ:

“I don’t understand what is happening. I already granted Miguel Cotto a lot of what they were asking to make this fight happen. It’s been more than a month and he has not decided to sign the contract.”

“I am young and obviously don’t remember many fights of the past, but I understand that no Puerto Rican has ever ducked a Mexican, or a Mexican a Puerto Rican. This is a classic fight and what the fans want to see.”

“I already talked to my promoter, Oscar De La Hoya, and he confirmed to me that I will fight on May 2, 2015 and Miguel Cotto is the opponent that tops the list. Thank God I have several options, but I believe and I think the fans of the world, especially in Puerto Rico, want me to face someone as big as he [Cotto].”

“Cotto has to decide already, but do not waste any more time. If not, he will go down in history as one who ducked a fighter who defeated his own brother because you are sure he can beat you too. I leave the task to him because I already did mine. I hope his decision does not hurt the sport of boxing in his country and the fans who demand this fight.”
