A rapid rise up the welterweight division will be at stake as two top contenders — former Olympian Sadam “World Kid” Ali (24-1, 14 KOs) and former Interim WBA World Super Lightweight Champion Johan “El Terrible” Perez (22-3-4, 15 KOs) – will slug it out over 10 rounds for the vacant NABA Welterweight title in the main event of Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN on July 29 from Casino Del Sol in Tucson, Arizona.

Ali, a 28-year-old representative of the 2008 U.S. Olympic team who holds impressive wins over Francisco “Chia” Santana and Luis Carlos “El Potro” Abregu, is coming off back-to-back victories after falling short in his first attempt at a world title last year.

“A win in this fight puts me right back in position to compete for a world championship,” Ali, who fights out of Brooklyn, New York, said. “I can’t wait to get back in the ring and demonstrate the speed and power that has led me to be a top contender in the welterweight division.”

Perez, a 33-year-old from Caracas, Venezuela who has held the interim WBA World Super Lightweight Championship and regional titles in the welterweight division, has defeated a number of top fighters including contender Yoshihiro “El Maestrito” Kamegai andformer world champions Steve “2POUND” Forbes and dealt Paul “The Pittsburgh Kid” Spadafora the first and only defeat of his career.

“The time has come for me to re-establish my name in the welterweight division, and that’s exactly what I’m planning to do on July 29,” Perez said. “Whether it’s by knockout or decision, when the fights comes to an end, I know I will have my hand raised in victory.”

“When we launched Golden Boy Boxing on ESPN, I promised that we would showcase competitive fights every time out,” Golden Boy Promotions CEO and Chairman Oscar De La Hoya said. “We have delivered on each and every card, and the July 29 main event between two hungry contenders in Ali and Perez will give fans exactly what they have come to expect from this series.”

A contender and numerous prospects are also scheduled to appear on the card.

Super welterweight contender Patrick Teixeira (26-1, 22 KOs) from Santa Catarina, Brazil, returns from his first defeat as a professional against a soon-to-be-determined opponent in a eight-round affair.

Looking to make TV, undefeated super bantamweight Pablo “The Shark” Rubio, Jr. (9-0, 3 KOs) from Los Angeles, California will be featured in a six-round fight against a soon-to-be-named opponent. nelojrThe “Canelo vs. Chavez, Jr.” PPV card is loaded with exciting knockout artists, with eight of the main card fighters having a combined record of 272-18-2 with 194 knockouts, highlighted by the Alvarez-Chavez, Jr. cumulative record of 98-3-2 with 66 stoppages.

Alvarez vs. Chavez, Jr. is one of the most anticipated fights, easily a Fight of the Year candidate, featuring two of the highest-profile Mexican warriors, fighting on Cinco de Mayo weekend.

Twenty-six year-old Alvarez (40-1-1, 34 KOs) is the reigning World Boxing Organization (WBO) world junior middleweight and The Ring magazine middleweight champion. The wildly popular fighter is moving up in weight to fight Chavez, Jr., who has dropped back down from light heavyweight.

Alvarez is 10-1 (6 KOs) in world title bouts, in addition to being 11-1 (4 KOs) in fights against current or past world champions: Shane Mosley, Miguel Cotto, Amir Khan, Miguel Vasquez (twice), Carlos Manuel Baldomir, Lovemore N’dou, Kermit Cintron, Austin Trout, Erislandy Lara and Liam Smith.

The son of legendary Hall of Famer Julio Cesar Chavez, Chavez, Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs) is a former World Boxing Council (WBC) middleweight world champion.  He has defeated world champions such as Carlos Molina, Sebastian Zbik and Andy Lee during his 13 ½ year professional career.

In his first pro loss, Chavez Jr. lost a 12-round decision to Sergio Gabriel Martinez, who survived a final round knockdown as Chavez tried to finish off the famed Argentinian.

The 10-round co-feature also has explosive potential as middleweights David Lemieux (37-3, 33 KOs) and Marcos “Dorado” Reyes (35-4, 26 KOs) have a higher combined knockout percentage than Alvarez-Chavez. Jr.

Lemieux, 28, is a highly skilledfighter from Montreal and a former International Boxing Federation (IBF) middleweight world champion.   He is 12-1 in his last 13 fights, since his loss to unified world middleweight champion Gennady “GGG” Golovkin. (more…)

On May 6, 2017, two Mexican fighters get it on at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Cinco de Mayo.

Saul “Canelo” Alvarez (48-1-1, 34 KOs) takes on Julio Cesar Chavez, Jr. (50-2-1, 32 KOs).

The bout will take place at the Canelo-weight of 164.5 pounds.

LOS ANGELES (March 2, 2017) – Former IBF Middleweight World champion David Lemieux (36-3, 32 KOs) and WBC Continental Americas Middleweight champion Curtis “The Cerebral Assassin” Stevens (29-5, 21 KOs) are making final preparations in training camp ahead of their slugfest for the WBO Intercontinental, WBC Continental Americas and IBF North American Middleweight titles. The event takes place Saturday, March 11 at Turning Stone Resort Casino and will be televised live on HBO Boxing After Dark® beginning at 11:00 p.m. ET/PT.
“After watching these fighters in their respective training camps-I can tell it is personal for both to go in for the kill on fight night,” said Oscar De La Hoya, Chairman and CEO of Golden Boy Promotions. “Lemieux is looking bigger than ever, and Stevens has been working day in and day out with John David Jackson. Get ready, fans- this is looking to be a surefire Fight of the Year candidate.”
”I’m going to destroy Curtis,” said Lemieux. “Training camp is going great, and I’m ready for war. Let’s go bum-let’s see how tough you are in the ring.”
” David Lemieux just finished an excessive and demanding training camp that was very productive and where every single objective was met,” said Marc Ramsay, trainer to David Lemieux. “Everything is in place not only for a great performance from David but also to make a statement. ”
“This should be a good fight. Me and Lemieux have the same kind of come and get it style,” said Stevens. “Some people think of me as just a hard puncher but I’m an all-around fighter. I can slug, I can box. My first reaction is to just take you out-but I can box you too.”
“For this fight, I could try to box the first couple rounds and then bring it to him for the rest of the rounds,” continued Stevens. “Lemieux is used to coming forward, so in order for me to not allow that, I have to stay right there in the clutch and make sure he backs up. We’ll see. No matter what he brings-it doesn’t matter, I’m ready to adjust. I see myself winning this fight. Whether it be by knockout or by decision, it doesn’t matter. I am really well prepared this time.”

“Lemieux is a dangerous opponent, and he is definitely coming to put a hurt on his opponent, said John David Jackson, trainer to Curtis Stevens. “There are small things that Curtis needs to do in this fight, to win the fight decisively and pretty much easily. He has to be smart in his approach, so we are working on things that will allow him to win this fight convincingly.”
“Curtis is a better boxer than he gives himself credit for being,” continued Jackson. “He just needs to be smart because Lemieux is a very risky opponent. Every fight is different for Curtis, and this fight is definitely different. For this fight, I think he is going to be a better boxer than the fans have ever seen.”

Tickets for this highly anticipated matchup are  still available and priced at $30, $45, $55 and $75 for ringside seats plus applicable fees and are available at the Turning Stone Resort Box Office by calling 315-361-7469 or online at Ticketmaster(
